Perlin Noise
Perlin Noise is very powerful because it can create endless textures that never repeat, animated effects that never loop, and takes virtually no texture memory. You can use Perlin Noise to create flowing water, animated fire, or just add random details to a pre-existing scene.

Perlin Noise is one of the most popular algorithms in computer graphics. It has been used in every major effects film in the last decade and is included as part of every commercially available software renderer – including 3ds Max's own scanline renderer.

However, all of those applications require you to wait while your image renders. With ShaderFX version 1.5, the wait is over. You can now create stunning real-time shaders which utilize the Perlin Noise algorithm and render in real-time right in the viewport.
